1. Does FenceMaker have my fences?
FenceMaker has over 400 fence styles similar to those profiles made by the
top vinyl, wood, metal and chain link manufacturers. You can easily swap in and
out colors, posts, and gates. Quickly stain a wood fence, change a vinyl fence
from white to black, or give a galvanized chain link a powder coated look. Posts
and gates are quickly interchangeable. In addition, more styles can be exchanged
or downloaded from the Web. And now with version 4.0, you can add your own customized
fence art and convert it to the FenceMaker format. (See the Manuals folder for details.) Or send us digital photos of the front profiles of your
custom fence styles via e-mail and for $50 per fence ($65 per gate) we will convert
them to FenceMaker for you.
2.
What platforms does
FenceMaker run on?
FenceMaker 2.0 runs on Microsoft Windows 95, and 98. FenceMaker 3.0 runs on Microsoft
Windows 2000, ME, NT, and XP. FenceMaker has not been developed or tested for
Apple Macintosh Operating System environments.
3.
Do I need to buy a laptop and a digital camera?
Not if you don’t want to. A great way to sell this service and use less effort
driving around town to make bids is to have customers take their own digital pictures of their property and send them to you via e-mail. That way,
you simply make the pictures on a desktop computer in the office and e-mail an
estimate back with the picture. Other contractors take pictures while they are
measuring and if they don't close their customers with their bid, go back to the
office and create a picture of the house to send back as a follow up via snail
mail or hand delivery.
Please note that even if FenceMaker does not interface directly with your digital
camera, all digital cameras offer some way to convert your digital photos to bitmap
(.bmp) or j-peg (.jpg) formats, both of which are easily imported into FenceMaker.
4.
What is the best way to use FenceMaker?
The best way to use this product is to have a marketing plan in place that promotes
your ability to image customers' homes with your fences so your customers can
see what they get before they buy. This can be done by advertising on radio, television,
newspaper, Internet and/or yellow pages, telling your customers how they can see what
their house will look like with your remarkable fences on their property before they buy. Or invite customers
to send in a digital photo of their house to you via e-mail so you can send it
back enhanced with your fences.
One idea that has been successful is to canvas a new subdivision by taking pictures
of the homes and then returning with customized leaflets printed from FenceMaker
or exported to a desktop publishing program from FenceMaker. One successful campaign
such as this can book you up for the rest of the building season.

I already own Photoshop and other imaging and landscaping software programs,
why do I need FenceMaker?
Other imaging software programs are great and FenceMaker is compatible with most
programs that work with bitmaps (.bmp files) or jpegs (.jpg files), however, few
if any imaging or landscaping software programs are able to handle fences so easily
and quickly as FenceMaker. When timing is critical and you need to get bids out
fast, FenceMaker is the answer you've been looking for.
6. Why do I sometimes get a black box around my fences in FenceMaker?
This is has to do with a small incompatiblity that occurs between various versions
of Microsoft Windows. However, the fix is very easy. Go to Edit:Options in the
pull-down menus at the top of FenceMaker. Choose each or both of the suggested
options and try again. The black box should disappear and never return again
as long as you are using the same system.
7.
When
I click on the desktop icon a screen pops up that says “run program”.
This is a security warning that is
designed to protect you from malicious programs installing themselves.
FenceMaker installs only the components required to run the program. To get rid
of this warning, simply click on the desktop icon to open the program. When the
warning appears, put a check mark in the, ”don’t show me this again” box and
click “run”. The screen will never return.
